Starting this October, trainers will be able to take a break from Pokémon GO and head to GameSpot for the first ever Fire and Water type - the "Steam Pokémon" Volcanion.
As a mythical event Pokémon, Volcanion will be level 70 when you get it. This release will coincide with promotion efforts for the upcoming Pokémon movie, Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel.
Here's what you'll have to do to get Volcanion
- First, go to a GameStop in October
- Ask for a Volcanion code (there will likely be signs up!)
- Boot up your game on your 3DS
- Go to the MYSTERY GIFT tab (make sure you're connected to the internet)
- Select RECEIVE GIFT and then GET WITH CODE
- Enter your Volcanion code from GameStop
- Download your Pokémon
- Head to a Pokémon Center and talk to the Delivery Girl to receive Volcanion!
Which Pokémon game do I need to get Volcanion?
You can download Volcanion on any of the current 3DS Pokémon titles: Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire.
Each game will also have a special easter egg that you can only view if Volcanion is in your party.
Pokémon X & Y:
In Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, if you visit Lumiose Press with Volcanion in your party and speak to the head editor there, you will be able to review the top-secret notes from Lumiose Press's coverage on Volcanion, which goes back 15 years.
In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, if you visit TV Mauville with Volcanion in your party and speak to a certain person there, you will discover a special clip from a once-famous TV program. This special clip depicts the famous explorer Brandon and his mysterious team as they pursue Volcanion.
Here's what moves Volcanion comes with
Volcanion will be level 70 and have a pretty unique mix of extremely powerful Water and Fire type moves:
- Steam Eruption
- Hydro Pump
Note: Steam Eruption is Volcanion's signature move - and it can't currently be learned by HM, TM, or Move Tutor. Steam Eruption has 5PP, deals 110 damage, and has 95% accuracy. Notably, the damage type is listed as BOTH Fire and Water.
Held Item: Volcanion will hold the Assault Vest item, which increases Sp. Defense stat by 50% but the Pokémon is unable use any defensive or status moves.
Ability: Water Absorb allows Volcanion to nullify any water damage sent at it and also heal one quarter of its maximum HP.
Since this an October event, this will be the last new Pokémon event to tide us over until Sun & Moon's November 19 release date. Well, of course we'll always have Pokémon GO too (and maybe Gen 2 by October)!
