So #PlayStation VR has finally been released, and many gamers are excited to experience virtual reality #gaming in their living rooms for the first time. The affordable #VR headset has been hyped for months and is expected to be a big hit with the gaming community, with some tech and financial analysts predicting that #Sony may sell a total of 1.4 million headsets before the end of the year.
Whether you believe that VR is a gimmick or the future of gaming, there is no denying this is a very exciting new product. Some #gamers (such as myself) have been somewhat apprehensive about purchasing PlayStation VR due to the fear of experiencing motion sickness while gaming — which is a valid fear.
If you fear VR sickness, as it's now known, and have purchased PlayStation VR, or are thinking of getting a headset in the near future, here is a list of launch titles to avoid playing, which many people who had early access to the game have highlighted experiencing nausea while playing.
This is a title by Rebellion Developments — the British-based developers perhaps best known for the Alien vs. Predator series — that some gamers feel would be better if it was not a VR experience. The fast movements that are required when playing the game have resulted in some players experiencing motion sickness.
2. Here They Lie
I actually have some experience with this horror player Here They Lie and can confirm the suggestions that the head movements required to steer the camera within the game are somewhat annoying and can lead to a certain feeling of nausea if you play for too long.
3. PlayStation VR Worlds
Within this game the player ventures through five separate and unique experiences. The activity required to play some of the worlds included in this title have been noted to cause severe nausea in some players.
4. Resident Evil 7 Demo
Resident Evil 7 is a title that has received a lot of coverage with regards to causing people to react with a feeling of sickness. One journalist even went so far as to describe it as a "sweaty, puke-inducing masterpiece." So I guess that's a good thing, right?
5. RIGS Mechanised Combat League
The gameplay in the sports game RIGS has been described as disorienting, as players are expected to make use of both the controller and the headset simultaneously in order to make any progress within the gameplay. This causes great confusion for the player.
6. Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration — Combat Mode Off
Some players have described the VR addition to the Rise of the Tomb Raider "Blood Ties" DLC as unnecessary, and perhaps this may be due to the fact that people have experienced serious bouts of nausea while playing the Combat Mode Off version of the DLC.
7. Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood
Is it really surprising that a VR game about a rollercoaster causes nausea? Add to that the fact that you may well have to move your head around while riding this terror trip as you attempt to kill your enemies, and you’ve got a recipe that is sure to result in a plate of puke.
There have been other titles that some players have experienced nausea with that are not on this list, because if all games that some people experienced motion sickness with were included, perhaps those gamers concerned about illness would need to avoid VR in general. So for that reason, the list above provides the titles that most gamers have supposedly experienced motion sickness with.
For those who have bought PlayStation VR, have fun experiencing VR gaming; hopefully, it doesn’t prove to be a nauseating experience!
