The last time we heard about Nathan Drake's adventures in the Sony produced #Uncharted movie, things didn't look so hot. Originally slated for release on June 30, 2017, the film was suddenly pulled from Sony's release schedule, implying that the studio had completely halted all production. Which, I guess, they did.

However, we've received some positive news regarding Drake's heralded arrival on the silver screen; news that has us terribly excited for a potential cinematic delight!

Uncharted Movie Is A Go, Starts Filming Next Year

At a recent event attended by Collider, the director signed on for the project, Shawn Levy of Night at the Museum fame, spoke about his excitement for finally starting production on the film in 2017:

"I am unabashedly thrilled to be making that next year," Levy said. "I'm definitely not filming before March. The goal is to film in the late spring, early summer."

Levy is clearly a fan of the franchise and heavily invested in the project. He spoke with admiration and fervor about Naughty Dog's creations:

I’ve played and loved every iteration of the game. I think it’s largely a popularly accepted notion that it’s as cinematic a game as we’ve had, maybe ever, certainly of late.

I am so committed to this thing and I’m in it on the script level with Joe Carnahan, who knows what he’s doing; that’s been a really frickin’ fun collaboration.

So, Who's Gonna Play Nathan Drake?

When asked about casting, Levy ensured journalists that he'd already started considering who would fill the role of the adventurous Nathan Drake.

The truth is, the conversations that are happening right now are with the studio and the producers talking about who feels right to us and to me.

When asked about the actors he's taken into consideration, Levy basically said everyone. What with people continuously suggesting names via Twitter, almost every ruggedly handsome movie star in existence has been recommended. He ran off a list of names that included Oscar Isaac, Nathan Fillion, Chris Pratt and Chris Pine, though he ensured us that his decision would not be based on "Twitter suggestions."

If Naughty Dog had based Drake's appearance and personality of daredevil Johnny Knoxville, actor Harrison Ford, and the heroes of pulp magazines, novels and films, who could fill his shoes? With this in mind, if you'll allow me to rest in Levy's directorial chair for a moment, let's look at some candidates who we think would be perfect for the role of Nathan Drake!

Nathan Fillion

Fillion is a well recognized actor in the movie business and the world of gaming. He starred in the ABC series Castle, he played Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly, and he's appeared in almost every #Halo game since Halo 3! He's charming, witty, well built and perfectly familiar with the cinematic and video game arts. He'd be perfect for Nathan Fillion. I mean Drake. Nathan Drake...

Liam Hemsworth

This tall hunk of an Australian has demonstrated his adept skills at handling blockbuster fame and intense action. After appearing in films like The Hunger Games, The Expendables 2 and Independence Day: Resurgence, we have no doubt that this chap would slot into the role of Nathan Drake like a hand in a glove made to fit it. Wow that was terrible.

Sure, Liam is a young man at the age of 26, but with a bit of stubble, those broad shoulders and a smirk across his face, we'd be happy to welcome him to the world of Uncharted.

Scott Eastwood

Appearing in Flags of Our Fathers, Gran Torino, Invictus, The Forger, Trouble with the Curve, Texas Chainsaw, Fury, The Perfect Wave, The Longest Ride and, most recently, Suicide Squad, Scott Eastwood has had an illustrious career considering his ripe old age of 30. But, man, would he ever be a perfect candidate for the role of Nathan Drake! He's handled huge films, can be wonderfully witty and has the looks and mannerisms to boot. Can the other two candidates compete with Eastwood's charms?
