Gotta Catch Em' All - 12 Of The Strangest Pokémon Conspiracies Unwrapped!

The Pokémon universe has captivated millions worldwide with its colorful creatures and adventurous spirit. But beneath the surface of this seemingly innocent franchise lurk dark theories and conspiracies that will make you question everything you thought you knew about the world of Pokémon. From secret government experiments to post-apocalyptic wastelands, these theories transform childhood nostalgia into something far more sinister.

In the land of #Pokemon there are many strange things - from rare shiny's to mythical God type creatures that can rearrange the very fabric of the universe. However, if we think that is the extent of the weird and wonderful, we're wrong. You see, the World of Pokémon generates so many conspiracy theories that we have decided to round up the best ones out there. We have no answers, only speculation. So roll up your trousers, things are about to get weird!

1. Nurse Joy

Nurse Joy at Pokemon Center

We have all been to the Pokémon Center to get our team healed, and one thing that has always struck us as odd is the Nurse Joy situation. How can one women be in every single center, perhaps they are all the same, or maybe they are just a family that all look the same; these are common thoughts.

But what if we told you a darker secret, that the Nurse Joys could just be clones sent out to Pokémon Centers? Or perhaps they are droids and there is no real person behind them?

2. Ditto

Ditto and Mew comparison

What if we told you that Ditto is the result of a failed science experiment? Sounds crazy right? So let's address the proof; both Ditto and Mew have the same body weight of 8.8 lbs, they are the same colour (both shiny and normal) and they are the only two Pokémon that can learn Transform. Plus Ditto appears at Cinnabar Island (a place where Team Rocket were trying to clone Mew).

3. Voltorb and Poké Balls

Ever wondered where Voltorb and Electrode came from? Well here is a rather strange concept, what if Voltorb first appeared when a Poké Ball was exposed to a mysterious powerful energy pulse?

This is actually backed up in a Pokédex Entry from Crystal version which says "During the study of the mysterious pulse they discovered that it was a #Pokémon because they are attracted to Poké balls."

4. The War

Lt. Surge the Lightning American

So Lt Surge (Vermillion City Gym Leader) is known as "Lightning American" and claims to have served in 'the war', hinting that perhaps Kanto was at some point part of a deadly war, and perhaps this was between Kanto and a different region (who knows which one).

So that is pretty awful – but it gets darker! This is a plausible reasoning for the lack of middle aged men (between the ages of 20 and 50), perhaps they all perished in the war.

5. Ash's Father

OK, a really dark one for you, so keep your chin up! Ash's father is strangely never mentioned in the series. Some say he died in the war (like theory 4) but more widely said is that he left Delia Ketchum after she became pregnant with Ash and never made it as a Pokémon Master; his bitterness toward the whole thing never died. Instead of making contact with his son, he watched from afar and made a decision to stop Ash succeeding where he failed.

So you guessed it, the theory is that Ash's father is none other than Giovanni! That's right, the Team Rocket BOSS!

6. Red's Death

Red on Mt. Silver

Have you ever completed the Johto region and gone to the top of Mt Silver? Once you get there, you find Red (main character in the Kanto region) waiting for you. He says nothing! The strangest thing is that once you beat him, he just disappears.

The theory is that Red actually dies from the cold at the top of Mt Silver and then you are just facing his ghost/spirit. Hence why he says nothing and just vanishes with no explanation.

7. Cubone and Kangaskhan

If the mother Kangaskhan dies while the baby is still young, the baby takes the skull and wears it... it then becomes a Cubone.

It is pretty dark, but also quite plausible when you look at the similarities between Cubone and the baby Kangaskhan.

8. Lavender Town Music

Lavender Town Pokemon Tower

So legend has it that during development of the game, the music in Lavender Town was different to how we hear it now. However the tone supposedly caused Japanese children to have mental breakdowns and, in some cases, even commit suicide.

This is mostly down to the binaural beats that the music generates; these beats can affect different parts of your brain and cause headaches or even suicidal thoughts. The children are thought to have been affected more than adults due to them being more sensitive to the different pitches of the beats.

9. Are You Eating Pokémon?

So the characters in the #Pokémon universe eat meat, right? Well, in a world where there are no real animals, the meat they are eating must be from Pokémon. Which means they must be the meat - Tauros burgers anyone?

10. Fairy Types Were Added To Stop Dragon Domination

So this is a recent conspiracy within Pokémon. Dragon types have been dominating the game for years, if you play competitive Pokémon you will know! So in comes the Fairy type – the only type that can really put a Dragon back in its place. But why was this type not in the 1st generation?

The theory is that Dragon types were rare in the original 151 Pokémon, so they didn't need a major weakness; but as the game progressed, more and more Dragons came forward and they have been dominating ever since. The introduction of Fairy type was purely to even the playing field!

11. Gengar and Clefable

Gengar and Clefable comparison

So this is another strange one - is Gengar the shadow of Clefable? First off, in terms of shape and size, the two Pokémon are very similar - but Gengar has this dark purple colour and spiky additions.

Clefable is a Normal type - immune to Ghost types, while Ghost types such as Gengar are immune to Normal types. Could this point to the two actually being one and the same?

12. Humans are Pokémon Too

And saving the craziest for last! In Sinnoh Folk Story 3 it states that there was once no difference between humans and Pokémon. Both humans and Pokémon ate at the same table, and when a Pokémon proposed marriage between human and Pokémon it was allowed.

This is further backed up by the existence of Psychic trainers who can use telekinesis, implying humans may have Pokémon-like abilities. Plus, isn't it strange that a 10-year-old can survive being electrocuted, burned, and frozen repeatedly while battling alongside their Pokémon?
