If you're making your way through Kingdom Hearts 2.8: Birth By Sleep, you're probably one of two kinds of people: the kind who beat the game once to see the story or the kind who beat the game once and immediately went back to unlock all of the wardrobe items.
This article is for the latter group (I mean, the former is welcome to read but if you're here, maybe you need to rethink how you self-classify).
In any case, four of the various objectives that unlock after your first playthrough involve finding "lingering memories" in each of the game's zones. Since the game doesn't actually tell you what the heck these are, I'm here to make your life easier: They're small, neon-ish icons that... don't actually do anything of note when you "activate" them.
But they're required for objectives all the same, and if you want to save time, just keep on readin' to see where each one is! Also note that these objectives and memories do not appear until you've started a new-game plus file!
Where To Find Castle Town's Lingering Memory

Objective 38: Find lingering memories in Castle Town
Reward: Pulse Blades
Castle Town's is pretty easy to find. You know that town center that makes for the perfect spot to earn Excellent Aim?
- The lingering memory is on the roof of one of the nearby homes, as shown above.
- No explanation is given as to why this shoe is on this roof.

Objective 40: Find lingering memories in the World Within
Reward: Warrior's Arm Plate
This one is a bit trickier, if only because it's hard to locate the first time around. Which is, thankfully, something I've already done so you don't have to! This one is located in the hub area on top of one of the pillars.
- To get it, you'll need to head to the right side of the room and jump on top of one of the buildings.
- From there, jump on top of the main archway — which conveniently also has a treasure chest on it.
- Walk along the archway until you're close enough to the pillar with the glowing red spot on top of it and then jump over.
Easy peasy.
Where To Find The Forest of Thorn's Lingering Memory

Objective 45: Find lingering memories in the Forest of Thorns
Reward: Pulse Antennae
The Forest of Thorn's lingering memory is one of those "hidden in plain sight" objectives. As you're exploring the forest, be on the lookout for a small nook with a large Heartless in it — more specifically, a Darkside.
See that little orange spot beneath the Darkside that looks like he spilled something or had an even more embarrassing accident? That's the lingering memory.
- Defeat the Darkside and it's all yours.
Where To Find The Depths of Darkness's Lingering Memory

Objective 50: Link with King Mickey to defeat the Demon Tower
Reward: Polka Dots
And finally, we have the lingering memory in the game's final area, the Depths of Darkness. This one is located very close to the zone's save point, but requires going off the beaten path slightly.
Shortly after passing the save point, you'll encounter three Earth Cores — or as I like to call them, adorable Heartless hedgehogs of death. Normally, you would defeat them and go on your merry way.
- But to find the lingering memory, you'll want to walk past them just a bit and then turn around.
- To your left you should see a hole. Like all great explorers, you want to jump down this.
- Reach the bottom, turn around, and look for the purple heart on the wall.
Boom. Done. That's all of them.
Hopefully this, at the very least, helped make your life a bit easier. If you're looking for advice on any other objectives, be sure to check out our hub page — we have several more objective guides to help you make Aqua look as fierce as heck.
