I know I'm not the only one who was disappointed to hear that Disney Infinity is closing its doors on production. With Disney Infinity 3.0's success story of being the first game to ever bring together beloved franchises like Disney, Disney•Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars™, and receiving a Toy-Of-The-Year award for 2016, the news came as a sudden shock to fans worldwide.
But before you pack up those figures, Play Sets, and Power Discs forever, there are still plenty of memories to be made!
The developers behind all three installments of Disney Infinity, Avalanche Software, created something that no other video game has ever offered: the Toy Box. The Toy Box gives the player the instruments to design their very own worlds inspired by stories told from across the Walt Disney Company. It's not just some Minecraft knock-off, either; there are complex tools and technical logic that can prepare aspiring game developers for real-world experiences. Think about all of the ridiculous things you could make!
Not a builder? Not a problem! Some of the most talented Toy Box Artists and Disney Interactive's very own Toy Box Mentors have built tons of mind-blowing Toy Boxes for all to enjoy. All of these are under Community Content from the Main Menu- definitely check those out! These are some of my favorites:
- BOSS BASHIN by the Toy Box Mentors
- Path of the Force by erdadi3
- Sam Flynn: Into the Grid by Sonicphoto
- Lava Hunt by MightyGitis
- Sabine Wren : Rebel on Mandalore by King Of The Tunas
That said, we're not dry of new content, yet! In honor of Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass, We will be getting brand-new Figures of Alice, Mad Hatter, and Time. All of these characters are playable in Toy Box 3.0, Toy Box Speedway, and Toy Box Takeover.
Plus, in honor of Disney•Pixar's Finding Dory, we'll be getting the Finding Dory Play Set (which includes the Dory Figure) as well as a Nemo Figure (sold separately) next month. Both characters are playable in the Play Set, as well as Toy Box 3.0, Toy Box Speedway, and Toy Box Takeover.
This doesn't have to be the end of a magical legacy! Disney Infinity's tagline has always been "The possibilities are infinite!" and just because the game is ceasing production doesn't mean that this game can't live on through its awesome, welcoming community. If you'd like to help the community save their beloved franchise, you can sign this fan-created petition.
Disney Infinity is more than just a game, it's an extended family, and as we always say:
